We Remember

We Remember

Have you ever had something said to you that you really didn’t pay attention to until much later when it was brought to the front of your mind as being important? Please read Matthew 27:62-66. The chief priest and Pharisees come again to Pilate with a “we remember” moment. They remembered when they asked Jesus to do a sign. He said that no sign would be given except the sign of Jonah. (Matthews 12:38-40) Jesus told his disciples after the death of John the Baptist on three separate occasions that he was going to Jerusalem to die and be raised again on the third day. (Matthew 16:21, 17:22-23, 22:23-33). Jesus corrected the Sadducees understanding of the resurrection by replying that they do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. (Vs 29) God brought to the chief priest and Pharisees the memory of the sign of Jonah that Jesus gave them. So they approach Pilate to ask him to seal the tomb because.  There is a passage of Scripture in Deuteronomy 18 concerning God raising up a prophet just like Moses from among the people. They are to listen to this Prophet.  If what he says comes to pass then the LORD has spoken through him and he is to be obeyed.  If what he says doesn’t come to pass then he is not to be feared because he is not from God.  Jesus told the religious leaders under oath that it is true that he is the Son of God, the I am who I am of Exodus three.  Jesus is the Prophet that God raised up who was like Moses to deliver people from spiritual bondage because of sin. Just as we remember that God’s word always accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent.  We must also remember that the purpose of God’s plan and the counsel of His will is also accomplished through the word that he has spoken. Pilate gave to the religious leaders the guards that they asked for but God will use them to validate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave.  This means that the religious leaders have to bow down to Jesus because he is the King of kings and Lord of lords.  What they feared-Jesus being raised from the dead will come true.  How does this impact our life today?  For one, are we really seeking Jesus with our whole heart so that we love him with our total being? Secondly do we really know the Scriptures and the power of God? We may have head knowledge of the Scripture and head knowledge of the power of God but have we walked humbly with the Lord to know him and the power of his resurrection at work in our lives? The challenge for us is to be still and know God.  I invite you to re-examine your relationship with Jesus. I will invite you to worship the Lord at one of our many Bible believing Churches here in Columbia County this Sunday.
